A beautiful ambience is not only a question of the right lighting. It is also a question of the corresponding home accessories. Here are a few helpful ideas for interior design or if you like; cocooning.

There’s something to be said for the days becoming shorter. Even if one or another  of the Mediterranean summer devotees are probably now wistfully reminiscing about the lovely warm evenings. But one of the more pleasant things is that you can now put on the lights earlier and so enjoy the twilight magic from your favourite armchair.

Only a few people know: We, next to our clothing, also have a selected assortment of home accessories which are often handmade and produced in intricate procedures. The lights from raum12, a small manufacturer, are among others, counted as part of this; we would like to briefly introduce them to you in this edition. Not only because of the unusual raw material for the lamp shades– wood – or the pleasant lighting atmosphere which  they radiate but because their construction sheds light on the bad design custom of  putting all and sundry under a glaring spotlight. Instead the lights leave the soft play of shadows from objects to their own beauty. And generate a contemplative (evening) atmosphere for a pleasant, quiet end to the day.

raum12, Augsburg

“Nature determines design“ – how often you wish that architects and city planners would follow this design maxim with a shining example such as the raum12 designers do. The Augsburg manufacturer does this in many aspects. The lamps or relatively lamp shades are from wood veneer, a natural raw material. (Needless to say that the grains are unique and that every lamp really is one of a kind). The light source is one of the most energy-saving currently available on the market: LED. And the cylindrical shape is based on that of a tree trunk. The result: a fascinating play of light: time after time. The olive ash burl is undoubtedly one of the wildest and most beautiful. The most elegant and probably also most expensive is the elm burl which with its perfect structure and its orange-brown to reddish colour can only  very seldom be found. The woods come from Europe and North America.  And an optimal illumination which is a pleasure to behold is achieved through the interplay with a diffuser.

Incredible play of shapes and colours due to the olive ash  grain. The shade combined with a cylindrical shape lets the warm light through, not only in one direction but evenly lighting the wooden shade’s veneer.
