Everyone talks about food culture. We do too, this time about tableware, the nature of banquets and a globalized world. The biscuit porcelain from Hering Berlin and the glassblowing  haute couturof J. & L. Lobmeyr in Vienna are important to us for two reasons: Stooge and Guarantor. Not only for the wedding list.

Discovering a fabulous recipe is child’s play nowadays. Tracking down a tasteful dinner service however is rather a feat. You realise that at the latest when you are facing this question on a wedding list or other gift list.
The curious thing is: We’ve long crossed the culinary (plate) borders of “Old Europe“– the plates themselves have changed precious little.
But we can put your mind at ease: for the 105,120 meals (the festive ones are probably a few less) which we have in the course of our life - Hering Berlin and J. & L. Lobmeyr undisputedly have what it takes to make them an unforgettable experience time and again.

PS. By the way, Hering Berlin is also as far as we know the only dinner service which you can have the pleasure of extensively “testing” in advance in top restaurants. Here is a list of the most beautiful venues for this purpose:

CUTTLEFISH PLATE FROM HERING BERLIN BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Plate “Squid“, Hering Berlin

Purists argue about whether these plates are better suited to pasta, for a bouillabaisse or a crispy seafood salad.  We will refrain from doing this and refer to Frederick the Great, according to whom each must live as he sees fit. Or recommend discussing this aspect with the top chefs e.g. in Glow in Davos.

COCKTAIL SHAKER BELL BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Cocktail shaker “Joy Bell“,

When it is about ringing in the pleasant part of Work Life Balance then in our opinion there isn’t a lovelier instrument. The vintage shape comes from the roaring thirties of the last century. Naturally, the shaker is food-safe. The bell is nickel plated on the outside and silver plated inside.

LOBMEYR DRINKING SET NO. 248 LOOS WINE DECANTER WITH STOPPER BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Wine bottle Loos, J. & L. Lobmeyr

Roaring thirties, part 2: Adolf Loos, one of the most impressive architects  at that time is also one of the most interesting product designers. He created this wine bottle for the American Bar that you can still see in Vienna today which he designed. To be honest, who needs a label for it?

HONE FISH CUP WITH SAUCER BY HERING BERLIN BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Cup “Filefish“, Hering Berlin

Tea or soup cup. Once again as shown here is how with a pinch of wit as is well understood by the Berlin illustrator Eleonore Gerhaher the view of the essence of the table (and tableware) can be effortlessly changed.

HAKE SERVING PLATTER BY HERING BERLIN BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Platter “Hake“, Hering Berlin

It is not recommended to have the appropriate equipment in the crockery cupboard only in the asparagus season. Simply for the reason that this aspect of dining is better shown to its advantage. And you don’t have to balance everything on the plate when coming from the kitchen.

LOBMEYR DRINKING SET NO. 248 LOOS WATER PITCHER BY TRUFFLEDIGGER

Pitcher “Loos“, J. & L. Lobmeyr

Lead-free crystal glass. Hand polished. The pitcher doesn’t fall short in any way to the wine bottle design from Adolf Loos. A more beautiful contribution towards drinking more water won’t come about so quickly again. And that was for a bar.
